Charming House Marquês

The Porto Charming House Marquês Guest House is located in a typical Porto street, in a building dating back to the beginning of the 20th century, in a central and secluded location, perfect for your visit to this Unesco World Heritage City. The welcoming atmosphere of this Porto Guest House has a modern design touch that distinguishes it from the rest of the accommodation on offer in Porto.

The passion for architecture that guided the building's restoration was also at the origin of the names given to each room, which correspond to the name of each of the six bridges in the city of Oporto. At the Guest House Charming House Marquês, we also offer our guests a virtual cruise across the bridges of Porto over the Douro River.

Activities

To get to know the city of Porto is to venture out on foot through the streets and waterfront with time to appreciate what the Invicta has to offer.

The Historical Center of Porto

Start your tour from the Charming House Marquês Guest House to the Historical Center of Porto passing through Rua de Santa Catarina, a well-known shopping area where you should stop for a coffee at the famous Café Majestic, the most emblematic and oldest café in the city. Continue to the typical Bolhão market and the Torre dos Clérigos. If reading is one of your favorite pleasures, be sure to visit the Lello & Irmão Bookstore, considered one of the most beautiful in the world! Other points of interest with equal charm are São Bento Railway Station, Santa Clara Church and São Francisco Church.

From D. Luís Bridge to the Riverside Area

Built at the end of the XIX century, D. Luís Bridge is a project of the Belgian engineer Théophile Seyrig, Gustave Eiffel's collaborator in the construction of the Maria Pia railway bridge. Walk across this metallic structure that is an ex-libris of the city of Porto that you won't want to miss. On the other side of the Douro River, in Vila Nova de Gaia you will find several cellars of producers of the famous Port wine, most of which can be visited. The best known are Offley, Ferreira, Sandeman, Ramos Pinto, Taylor's, and Real Companhia Velha. All of them cultivate and harvest only in the region demarcated by the Marquis of Pombal in 1756. This politician was one of the great responsible for the dynamization of Port wine exports, which had already been cultivated, according to some sources, since the 13th century. Back to the starting point, on the other side of the D. Luís Bridge, stroll along the Oporto riverfront, admire the rabelo boats and enjoy the restaurants and bars on offer. There is one for every taste. And why not take a cruise on the Douro River, especially the 6 Bridges of Oporto named after each of the rooms at the Charming House Marquês Guest House?

Culture and Design

For those who appreciate art and architecture, the Serralves Foundation with its Museum of Contemporary Art and its gardens is an obligatory stop. The same goes for Casa da Música, whose quality programming is recognized internationally. In the arts quarter, in the Miguel Bombarda area, you can lose yourself in the many art galleries and designer stores and design products you'll find.
